World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June every year
The theme for World Environment Day, 2020 is “BIODIVERSITY”
It was first held in 1974, with the theme "Only One Earth". It has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on environmental issues, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption, and wildlife crime. World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, World Environment Day has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, and governments worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
The COVID- 19 pandemic has taught us that if we destroy biodiversity, we are in a way destroying the support of human life. Globally, about one billion cases of illness and millions of deaths occur every year from diseases caused by coronaviruses; and about 75 percent of all emerging infectious diseases in humans are zoonotic- transmitted to people by animals.
It’s time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices.
It’s time to build back better for People and Planet.
It’s Time for Nature
