World Brain Tumor Day

World brain tumor day is observed on the 8th of June every year since 2000. This day was first observed by the German Brain Tumour Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe e.V.).
A brain tumor occurs when abnormal cells are produced within any part of the brain. There are two main types of tumors- malignant (cancerous), and benign (non-cancerous). It can occur at any age.
Some common symptoms are headaches, seizures, problems with vision, vomiting, and mental changes. The patient may feel headache and nausea in the morning. More specific problems may include difficulty in walking, speaking, and sensation.
Many brain tumor patients, especially malignant brain tumor patients, are at a higher risk of getting infected with COVID-19, as chemotherapy and radiation can compromise a patient’s immune system, making them more susceptible to the virus. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus by following all the precautionary measures.
